SciRoc 2021 is a robotic competition involving groups of researchers from all over the world. The goal is to demonstrate how social robots can be useful to citizens in an urban context, that of smart cities. Robots serving customers in a coffee shop, arranging products on store shelves, driving the shopping cart in supermarkets. But also robots capable of speaking and understanding sign language and of helping people who need medical assistance. It will be a week of challenges, to show the capabilities of the most advanced robotic applications in different contexts. Smart City Robotics (SciRoc) is a European project funded under the Horizon 2020 program, in support of the European Robotics League (ERL), which organizes competitions to promote research, development and innovation in robotics and artificial intelligence. Every two years, the teams involved in these three categories come together in a European smart city to compete in the Smart City Robotics Challenge, showing how robots can integrate into the daily life of the cities of the future. And it will be Bologna that will host the 2021 edition of the competition. Organized by the University of Bologna, the Foundation for Urban Innovation and the Alma Mater Foundation, with the support of the Municipality of Bologna, the event will be hosted in the heart of the city, at Palazzo Re Enzo.
