On July 5, 9, 11 and 12 to mark the centenary of the death of composer Giacomo Puccini, the Teatro Comunale di Bologna will stage the famous Triptych consisting of the one-act operas Il Tabarro, Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi.
THE TABARRO.
Trittico, first station. Tragedy and Hell. There is no hope for humanity adrift on the barges of the Seine, teeming with longings and regrets. A naturalist rather than verist pessimism permeates the first opera in Puccini's Trittico, and the music takes on a livid color that brings it closer to expressionism.

SUOR ANGELICA
Trittico, second station. The elegy, the purgatory. Cloister time is suspended, it is a placid serenity teeming with symbols, renunciations, expiations. The icy cruelty of the world shatters the artificial peace of waiting. The unreal and motionless sweetness is shattered, the protagonist from being a victim becomes the master of her destiny strong in the wisdom acquired in herbalism. Finally, a bitter ambiguity: miracle or hallucination?

GIANNI SCHICCHI
Triptych, third station. Comedy, Heaven. To tell the truth, “this oddity” will throw the protagonist into hell, but compared to the sentence pronounced in the Divine Comedy, Puccini's opera grants excellent mitigation to the wily Schicchi.
