From the Meloncello Arch, as from Noah's Ark, on a "journey" within a journey. The French man of letters and novelist Jules Janin on a visit to Bologna in 1838 wrote, "You go like this, straight ahead, sheltered from the sun, and when you have traveled three miles and covered seven hundred arches, you have arrived. Eh! Where do you want to come like this but to a cemetery?"Walking along one of the city's most famous porticos as ancient travelers we will arrive at the Certosa Cemetery - now a UNESCO heritage site - one of the most visited places by those who wanted to know the wonders of Bologna: Dickens, Stendhal, Byron, whose 200th death anniversary falls this year. But also the burial place of great Bolognese, yearning souls, resourceful spirits, who wanted to explore, know and conquer the world: Matteucci, Gandolfi, Pizzardi. So let us discover myths, fears, dreams, hopes and lives of Bolognese travelers through the masterpieces of the Certosa di Bologna.
