Performer, academic, musical activist, John Eliot Gardiner brings to all his activities a constant interplay between rigour and imagination, precision and fantasy. All blended into an inexhaustible capacity for sound "seduction". An attitude that was initially highlighted in the Baroque repertoire, but which he has long since applied to classicism and pre-Romantic symphonism. The three masterpieces by Haydn and Mozart, interpreted together with "his" English Baroque Soloists, founded in 1978, stand on this line, marked by restlessness and shady passages.
