From 10 April 2025 to 8 February 2026 in the Galleria Modernissimo, in the heart of the city, in Piazza Maggiore, an exhibition entitled "Georges Simenon. Eight journeys of a novelist" curated by Gian Luca Farinelli and John Simenon
In the footsteps of Georges Simenon: an exhibition that promises to be a long and fascinating journey to discover the roots of a genius, exploring his own travels, his writings, the films inspired by his works, and the photographs he took during his reportages in France, Europe, Africa, and around the world, a world that unconsciously approached the Second World War.
Following in the footsteps of the young Georges Sim (the name by which he signed his early works), we will discover the evolution of Georges Simenon: the creator of Maigret, the author of the ‘hard novels’, the novelist who acted as an editor, the liégeois who became a citizen of the world, the writer who, in his search for himself, managed to recount the fears, obsessions and atmospheres of the ‘Short Century’.
This will be the first major exhibition to emerge from a decade of work on the archive held by the writer's son, John Simenon, co-curator of the exhibition. The exhibition benefits from the institutional support of the Municipality of Bologna, the Emilia-Romagna Region and the Ministry of Culture, as well as from the close collaboration with Adelphi Editore.

At the end of June 2024, with the beginning of the thirty-eighth edition of the Il Cinema Ritrovato festival, the new access to the spaces of the Cinema Modernissimo and the Modernissimo Exhibition Gallery will be inaugurated: through the ‘Pensilina’, located in the centre of Piazza Re Enzo, it is possible to access it by going down the stairs or using the lift.
